Tandems are kayaks "built for two", with seating for two passengers, while solo kayaks hold a single passenger.

Should I Shop Solo or Tandem Kayaks?

This comes down to personal preference. People who already enjoy canoeing with a partner often prefer tandem kayaks because they offer a similar experience.

We have found that if you are new to kayaking and plan to kayak with family and friends, there is something to be said for the freedom of everyone exploring in their own solo kayaks. The extra freedom lets everyone go at their own pace and can provide a more enjoyable experience. However, tandems do offer more cargo capacity than solo kayaks.
